The Libyan general people's Committee has passed a decree setting 250 Libyan dinars (about US$200) as the minimum wage for employees of companies and institutions that are not paid from the public treasury.
The decree issued Monday will be retroactive as of 1 January 2007.
It said parties concerned with the minimum wage increase are the individual, family or association activities, joint ventures, public, joint and foreign companies as well as the other institutions governed by the provisions of Law 21 and its executory rules on the running of economic activities.
Last November, the Libyan general people's Committee had raised social pensions from 90 Libyan dinars to 130 dinars for people without dependants, 180 for two-member families and 220 for three- member families or above.
