Secretary of General People's Congress underlined that the meeting of Parliament and National Assembly's Speakers in Africa comes within the framework of the African Union, the unprecedented achievement at the continent's level .

In his address at the opening session Wednesday evening, the Secretary saluted the Leader of the Revolution for his outstanding efforts to build this great Union.

He also saluted African leaders who had responded to his call and had recorded an honorable stand by declaring the establishment of the AU on 9/9/99 in the city of Sert.

The Secretary pointed out that this meeting during which the current situation concerning the signing and approval of the modifications made on the Articles of Association of the Union would be reviewed, to consolidate the efforts made by African leaders who have accomplished this great work, the establishment of the AU.

He indicated that the effects of the rise in oil prices and lack of investment in Africa, to be under discussion at this meeting, require a serious responsible stance to avoid the negative results and the economic damages that would affect in particular, the poor African countries.
