NOC's interest in maintaining all equipment in good working order has grown over the years. Maintenance is achieved through the development of new programmes for operations whenever needed, as well as the actual maintenance programmes of equipment and instruments currently used. The economic justification of maintenance lies in the fact that it is cheaper cost-wise to maintain current equipment than to replace it with similar new ones.

As maintenance prolongs the life of oil equipment and facilities, a plan devised by Libyan experts based upon comprehensive surveys of the existing oil facilities and equipment in the fields and terminals, is being carried-out emphasizing proper use and raising operational standards.
NOC hopes to establish a highly developed automated programmes for preventive and periodical maintenance in all companies. Such programmes will ensure that maintenance takes place as scheduled, and will aim at avoiding any unexpected failures.
