Major oil facility in Libya continues to burn, but Petro-Canada says fire contained

A fire at a major oil-storage facility in Libya burned for the second day, but has been contained to one tank, according to Petro-Canada.

The facility contains approximately 450,000 barrels of crude oil, spokesman Tom Carney said from London Wednesday.

Petro-Canada stores oil in the facility in Ras Lanuf, the nation's biggest petroleum port.

Much of the oil has been drained off and that the fire has been confined to one particular tank, Carney said.

It is too early to say how much oil is involved, he said.

Carneys says its too early to tell how much less oil that will mean.

Calgary, Alberta-based Petro-Canada produces about 90,000 barrels a day in Libya.

There have been no injuries reported from the fire, which began late Tuesday morning, Carney said.

In June, Petro-Canada signed six 30-year exploration and production sharing agreements in the North African country.
