Libyan Ambassador to Malta Saad El Shalmani has said that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Search and Rescue (SAR) between Malta and Libya, which has been in the pipeline for quite a while, is “ready to be signed at the first opportunity”. Dr El Shalmani was speaking to journalists on board the US Coast Guard Cutter Dallas while SAR exercises were being carried out by the ship’s crew, graduates of the Armed Forces of Malta’s (AFM) SAR Training Centre, and personnel from the AFM’s Maritime Squadron. The Libyan ambassador’s presence on the US Coast Guard vessel was particularly significant.
