Tripoli West Power Plant
- Orders for the construction of a power plant in the western part of Tripoli and a power plant in Al Khalij from General Electricity Company of Libya
- Favorable trend of order receiving continues with recent power plant construction in Kuwait and civil engineering in Singapore.
* Received overseas orders exceeding USD 3.4 billion as of October.
HDEC (CEO: Lee, Jong Soo) recently received a USD 1.36 billion order for the construction of a power plant in the western part of Tripoli and a power plant in Al Khalij from General Electricity Company of Libya.
The Tripoli West Power Plant will be constructed on a site 20 km west from Tripoli, Libya’s capital, and the Al Khalij Power Plant on a site 20 km west of Sirte, the administrative capital of Libya.
This new construction is projected to produce a total of 2,800 MW of electricity (350 MW x 8 Units) to meet the annually increasing demand for electricity in Libya. The total construction period is 52 months.
HDEC has gained a reputation for its superior technologies and construction capabilities in the power plant sector through projects like the USD 135 million power transmission line construction order from Libya and the USD 710 million “Shuaiba North Power and Desalination Plant” from Kuwait in July 2007, which contributed to receiving the order for this project.
In addition, this construction order brought HDEC an advantageous position in receiving subsequent orders for power plant construction in other countries as well as Libya.
HDEC has carried out 20 projects and USD 4.48 billion in construction projects in Libya since entering the market with the Ras Lanuf Harbor Construction project in September 1980.
HDEC has won orders totaling USD 3.4 billion for construction of oil & gas facilities, power plants, and power transmission lines from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, and Libya as of October, which is the largest overseas order amount in the domestic construction industry as of October and equivalent to HDEC’s goal in amount of overseas order for this year.
