Boiler 5 of the Tobruk II Power Plant was handed over mid September 2006 after successfully completing all contractually agreed services and deliveries. It has been operating since then without interruption.
Since completion of the installation phase, the Derna 5 plant is now being commissioned and should be ready for operation at the end of August 2007. With the handover of the plant, Derna 5 is covered by a twelve-month warranty.
The material delivery phase for Derna 4 is completed. The works should begin late 2007, since the plant could not be accommodated by the mains so far due to energy bottlenecks in Libya.

The boiler is designed for 113 bar and has a steam output of 265 m. tons/hr with an outlet temperature of 525 °C. The first step in modernising the four units in the Tobruk and Derna power plants is thus completed.
The contract to modernise the power plants was awarded to ThyssenKrupp Xervon Energy by the Global Electricity Services Company ( GESCO ) from Libya. In addition to refurbishing the boiler by replacing pressure parts and modernising the firing system, the contract also includes overhauling the complete air, flue gas, feedwater and auxiliary steam systems.
