Libya launched the green mountain project which is one of the various schemes of the sustainable development programs.

Dr. Saif Al-Islam Muammar Al-Gaddafi who is awarded PHD degree in economics from London school of economics and political science announced on 13/9/2007 the Cyrene declaration in the presence of peoples congress and before an audience of journalists and senior officials from international organizations.

The green mountain project will develop approximately 5500 square meters, along 200 kilometers of the Mediterranean coast. Wind and solar power will be utilized and thus reliance on oil and gas would be diminished. The benefits from this project is that environment would be preserved and archaeological sites would be protected and will be a sources of income.

The society will be nourished as resorts and other resources will have considerable income. The citizens will benefit from the services and utilities of the planned infra structure and from local traditional industries.

Small and medium schemes which are financed by commercial banks will create employment opportunities.

Financial corporations will participate in financing economy, expansion of agriculture and related schemes as well as various activities and tourism schemes creating thousands of jobs.

We conclude that it is necessary to use a fast track to sustainable development and we will work hard to achieve our aim. Although there is shortage of experienced labor and there is lack of sufficient expertise for the sustainable development plan, we shall overcome this fact by extensive training and qualifying university graduates locally and abroad.
